What is Keyword Density Checker?

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears relative to the total word count of a page. It is calculated as: (keyword occurrences ÷ total words) × 100. Historically, SEOs targeted specific density ranges (2–3%), but modern Google has moved away from density as a signal in favor of semantic relevance. However, keyword density analysis still helps identify two common problems: over-optimization (keyword stuffing at 5%+ which looks spammy to Google) and under-representation (the primary topic barely appears, weakening topical relevance).

This checker analyzes text you paste or a URL you enter, counts word and phrase frequencies after removing stop words, and identifies the most prominent keywords. It displays single keywords, two-word phrases (bigrams), and three-word phrases (trigrams) sorted by frequency. The density percentage helps you spot whether a topic is over-emphasized or barely mentioned relative to the page length.

Keyword Density Checker FAQs

Quick answers about the workflow, privacy, and where this tool fits in a broader job.

What is the ideal keyword density?

There is no precise optimal density. Modern SEO focuses on semantic coverage of a topic, not a specific percentage. A useful guideline: if the primary keyword appears less than once per 500 words, it may be underrepresented. If it appears more than once per 50 words, it may look spammy.

Does keyword density directly affect Google rankings?

Not as a direct signal anymore. Google evaluates topical relevance using semantic analysis across the whole page, not simple term frequency. Density analysis is most useful for catching obvious over-optimization or identifying under-covered subtopics.

Should I include stop words in my analysis?

Stop words (the, and, is, of) are excluded from keyword analysis since they appear on every page and carry no topical signal. The checker filters them automatically. Toggle stop words on if you need to verify specific phrases that include common words.
