What is File Merger?

A file merger combines the contents of multiple files into a single output file. The most common use case is merging text-based files: combining multiple CSV exports from different time periods into one dataset, concatenating log files from multiple servers, merging multiple Markdown files into a single document, or combining several JSON arrays into a unified dataset. This eliminates the manual process of opening each file, copying its contents, and pasting into a combined file.

This browser-based merger accepts multiple text, CSV, JSON, and Markdown files via drag-and-drop. You can set the order by dragging files in the file list, configure the separator between files (none, newline, `---` divider, or custom text), and choose whether to include or exclude header rows when merging CSVs (to avoid repeating the header from each file). The merged result is available for download in a single file.

File Merger FAQs

Quick answers about the workflow, privacy, and where this tool fits in a broader job.

Can I merge PDF files?

This tool merges text-based files only. PDF merging requires different processing — PDF files are binary documents with complex layout structures, not plain text. For PDF merging, use the PDF-specific tools or a PDF editor.

What if my CSV files have different columns?

The merger concatenates file contents without column alignment. If your CSV files have different column orders or different column sets, the merged output will have misaligned columns. For structured data merging with column matching, use a spreadsheet tool like Excel or Google Sheets.

Is there a file size limit?

Browser-based merging is limited by device memory. Files up to 100–200 MB merge reliably on most devices. For very large files (GB-scale), command-line tools like `cat` (Unix/Mac) or `type` (Windows CMD) are faster.
